For years working in the education environment we see the lack of knowledge minority students have in the admission process for college. We also see that students lack direction once they are admitted into college. These deficits are evident both at the community college and the university levels.
College preparation is important and should be instilled in students at a much earlier juncture in their educational careers. After contemplating this issue we decided to create a program, Education Concepts, which is a comprehensive program to overcome a very large waste of human resources and social capital.
This waste is estimated to be much more than two billion dollars annually and results from the woefully low high school graduation and college success rates of low-income and minority students in the Chicago metropolitan area.
Our Professional Development track will guide students through college to develop them into career professionals of tomorrow. With the plethora of information given to students in high school and college often times students are overwhelmed and don’t know which end is up. We have devised sessions to support students, while in their first year of college; this system will help to decrease campus culture shock and help make their transition a little easier.
